Sunday 22nd November 2020

Release of ‘Nano Nagle Place – A Musical Reflection’ where Evelyn Grant leads a reflection on Nano Nagle Place with harpist Jean Kelly in the Goldie Chapel. The performance features poetry by Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin from her recent publication The Mother House.

Jean Kelly hails from an Irish family of several generations of professional musicians. In 1996 she won a scholarship to study harp at the Royal College of Music, London. Since graduating she has based herself in London and is in great demand as a versatile harpist. She regularly tours with the Locrian Ensemble performing harp concertos and her own arrangements of Irish music. She has recorded three CDs with the group.

In May 2011 Jean was invited to Dublin to play for the historic visit of HM Queen Elizabeth to Ireland. She also performed alongside Nobel Prize-winner Seamus Heaney at the Opening Night of the World Harp Congress in Dublin and accompanied Irish President Mary McAleese on a State Visit to Austria.

Jean performs on commercial film and TV soundtracks, for composers such as Jonny Greenwood, Max Richter and Dario Marianelli. She played solo harp on Michael Kiwanuka’s Mercury Prize winning album and has toured with pop singer Paloma Faith.

Jean regularly performs with the Guy Barker Big Band, at major UK venues including The Proms at The Albert Hall and is a frequent guest with the BBC Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra (UK) and Irish Chamber Orchestra
