‘The Furthest Lantern’ – Film Screening

Thursday 31st Aug, 19.00 – 20.00, Heritage Lecture Space.

In 1950, five Presentation Sisters travelled to Wellington, New Zealand to open a Presentation School. This documentary created by Paul Davidson. tells the story of these Sisters, their school and students in Aotearoa.

The Irish ambassador to New Zealand (Peter Ryan) had this to say about the film:

“I was privileged to attend the premiere of this wonderful film which gives an essence into the story of the Presentation Sisters in Aotearoa New Zealand.  It might be difficult today in our modernised society to fully comprehend the extraordinary courage and conviction of the five Sisters who left Ireland in 1950 to devote their lives in service to the people of New Zealand. In leaving to follow the vision of the Venerable Nano Nagle, the Sisters left behind their families, friends and communities to devote their skills, talents and hard work to improve the lives of others. The personal stories in the film attest to their positive impact on generations of students and their families as well as reminding us of the way in which the community took the Sisters to their hearts.”

Free event, no registration required.
